Today, I am pondering the privileges that God places at our feet; yes privileges, there for us to receive, share and enjoy. How many times, in our hurried fast paced lives, do we miss the privileges to minister to one another?
Luke 12:35-36 "Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, like men waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knock they can immediately open the door for him."
Wednesday afternoon my light was lite and I heard the knock! Ashley, a young lady in our church family was seeking assistance, to prepare a talk that she is constructing for her upcoming Chrysalis weekend. Chrysalis is the youth vision of the Walk to Emmaus. Since I have prepared and given several talks for the Walk to Emmaus weekend, my friend Pam suggested that Ashley ask if I would help.
Titus 2:3-4 Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanders or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husband and children....
Pam and I spent several hours with Ashley, we listened, asked questions, encouraged and prayed with Ashley. Was our job merely to boast Ashley`s confidence, that would allow her to tap into the power of the Holy Spirit that dwells within her?
Hours passed as Ashely sat at the computer, pouring the words from her heart onto paper. Once again, we prayed before Ashely would read the words of her first draft. With confidence, Ashely presented her talk to us; tenderly Pam and I listened, noting spots where she might insert scripture. That`s my favorite part!
What a privilege! According to Webster: The right, immunity, or benefit enjoyed by a particular person or group. As believers and followers of Jesus Christ, I thank God for the everyday privileges that He lays at our feet and the desire to notice.
The light of Jesus shines bright in the eyes and heart of young Ashley; as she prepares for college in the fall, I pray that the intensity of her light, ignites the minds, hearts and souls of fellow student. Ashley and all Christians possess the ability to change the world, its our privilege, thank you God!
Psalm 36:9 For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light. Amen!
